“Oasis” is a multi-channel sound and video installation that questions our relationship to environmental sound. It raises the question of what we think our imprint on our nature is. Whilst sonic landscapes are transforming: urban environments are evolving into increasingly louder habitats, natural sites are becoming more and more difficult to come by – human-produced environmental noise is rapidly permeating the atmosphere and the living species that occupy it. The piece thus presents an oasis ground, a “man-made” area, offering peace and quietude to the ones needing an escape. It allows the visitors to immerse in the potentiality of nature (even though it is not naturally constructed), this way questioning its commodified status. Through our inevitable “imprint”, ‘Oasis’ presents the gallery room as a site for reflection. It demonstrates how through moving images, sonic composition as well as our bodily movements, what we think of nature is a space built by human production.

“Oasis” was exhibited at Call&Response gallery in London in 2017.
