"Endless Loops of Mourning" was developed during SÍM Residency in Iceland and exhibited at the SÍM Open Space in August 2024. It combines a 16-meter graphic sound score with a 25-minute performance, exploring grief within the personal, socio-political, and environmental millieu. The graphic score serves as a visual representation of sound, inscribed by making space to the moments of mourning amid the ongoing global chaos of grief.
Beginning with sound on paper, the score invites open-ended interpretation and translation. Drawn with pen on paper over 16 meters, it serves as a space for processing trauma, both still hidden and newly resurfaced. The accompanying performance is composed using field recordings, conversations, electronically generated material, and voice. These elements are transformed into loops, forming a layered soundscape that reflects the cyclical nature of grief and memory.
The work addresses cycles of loss on individual and collective levels, linking personal experiences to broader political and environmental contexts. As a graphic score, it seeks to challenge traditional musical notation, inviting different readings and performances. This iteration is the first step in a larger project, extending itself into infinite tape loops, electronic music compositions, and an album.
